"> '); Password Protected Directories
A password-protected directory or area is a folder which can be accessed when a username and a password are provided, so no unauthorized people can observe its content. This feature can be used for the main folder of a certain site or just for a specific subfolder depending on your requirements. As an illustration, if you are building a new website and you don't want people to see it before it is ready, you may want to limit the access to it altogether, while if you would like only some people to be able to access specific files, you'll be able to password-protect only a particular folder, while the remaining portion of the site could be seen by everybody. Anyway, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear in case the login details the visitor enters are not right. Even a direct link to a file won't work provided any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Shared Web Hosting

All of our shared web hosting include a very convenient tool that will allow you to protect any folder inside your account from unauthorized access with simply 2 clicks. As soon as you log in to your Hepsia web hosting Control Panel, you will just have to go to the Password Protection section, to choose the main domain or subdomain, to specify the folder that needs to be protected - the root folder or some folder under it, and then to type the username and the password that should be used to access the content in question. The feature shall be active immediately, so if you make an effort to open the folder/website, you'll be prompted to input the login credentials. You could set up or remove multiple usernames for the same folder, when necessary. When you go to the File Manager section, all password-protected folders shall be shown with a tiny padlock icon.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you shall be able to protect any content that you've uploaded using our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it is part of, so you'll not need to type in any code at any time. You will simply need to choose one of the domains/subdomains which you have inside the web hosting account and to select which folder needs to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. Then you can enter the username and the password, that will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you will be good to go. The protection shall be turned on straightaway, so anybody who tries to access the newly secured folder will have to input the accurate login information. In cases where several people have to be able to open the same content, you could make a separate username for each of them.
